Jurgen Klopp has made a huge call by leaving out Coutinho from the match day squad against Man City while praising new boy Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
As Philippe Coutinho returns to Liverpool training this week the big question is; when will he be reintegrated back into the side? The answer is ‘not yet’.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has left Coutinho out of his match squad to face Manchester City tomorrow. The Brazilian has not yet featured for the Reds this season as he agitated for a move to Barcelona.
A mysterious back complaint and illness were the reasons given for his absence. Those cleared up nicely for him to play for Brazil during the recent international break. This led to many fans feeling betrayed by him.
Klopp has spoken twice now about the good mood Coutinho has been in and has been positive about their current relationship. Klopp can’t just open the door directly to the first team – especially as they have been playing so well in his absence. His delayed return is probably best for player, squad and fanbase.
One of the reasons Klopp can take his time with Coutinho is that he is clearly in love with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The manager is already already praising his versatility and hard work. He also plays with a smile on his face which Klopp himself wants in his players. It would not be a surprise to AOC feature against City. It is unlikely that he will replace any of the midfield or forward starters from the Arsenal game but he is sure to be used from the bench.
