Passion worthy of captaincy

It’s much too soon to be discussing a replacement captain – especially one that’s only just joined the club. But the Ox’s mindset and hunger for victory in a red shirt reminds me of Steven Gerrard’s undying passion.

The team has lacked a certain spark since Gerrard hung up his Number 8 shirt and departed for LA Galaxy. As a captain, Henderson doesn’t possess the unconditional love for Liverpool. Or if he does, he doesn’t show it often.

Passion, loyalty and utter romanticism for Liverpool FC are the most important factors to the fans. When a player pulls that Liverbird over their chest, they need to be giving the game and the legacy of the club 100%. It isn’t just a job when you play for Liverpool, it’s a way of life.

The only players currently showcasing true grit is Emre Can, James Milner and Trent Alexander-Arnold. The academy riser lives and breathes for the club – something you often only find in a born and bred scouser.

But Oxlade-Chamberlain seems to have the same stars in his eyes. Given the chance, he could be a great leader and fantastic new skipper.

Performances moving forward

After an abysmal performance and a miserable 5-0 loss against Manchester City, Chamberlain hasn’t had much time to prove himself. But we all know he has it in him to greatly impact the way Liverpool play football.

His speed, dribbling and link up play will fill a huge gap the squad have in their midfield. The forwards are often left to graft even harder than usual to create chances. Hopefully this will be less of an issue with the new boy in town.

After a painful blow, the only way is up for the Reds from here. Hopefully Alex will continue his streak of positive, heart warming tweets to keep morale up. Next stop, Sevilla! Let’s hope he can get a few minutes game time and really show us why he’s known as ‘The Ox’.
