Three ways that Liverpool could rotate against Leicester in the Carabao Cup
Ward /Gomez, Matip, Masterson, Robertson / Milner, Henderson, Woodburn / Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ings, Coutinho
In this last lineup, Ward stays in goal, but Joe Gomez floats over to the right back spot. Despite not having the best of nights against Sevilla in the Champions League, the England U21 captain did well there against Crystal Palace and especially Arsenal. In the middle of the defence, Joel Matip would provide experience and maturity for his pairing with Conor Masterson.
Masterson is a 19-year old Irish centreback who is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in Liverpool’s Academy. He impressed in Liverpool U19’s UEFA Youth League win against Sevilla U19 this past week, even scoring a lovely goal. After Liverpool’s defensive shortcomings this season, maybe it’s time to see what an Academy product can do.
Meanwhile, Andrew Robertson would remain at left back to give Alberto Moreno more rest before the weekend.
In midfield, James Milner would keep his place from the 1-1 draw against Burnley alongside Jordan Henderson. Woodburn would drop deeper into the midfield three, effectively playing the role that Coutinho does when slotted there.
Coutinho would play on the left side of the forward line, but he could also play as the no. 10 if Liverpool had to switch to a more defensive 4-4-1-1 in defensive situations.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain would be on the opposing side providing service to the returning Danny Ings. While Ings is seemingly a long way off being fit, this cup game is a good opportunity for him to get some first team minutes after a few appearances for the U23s.
