Liverpool fans can’t believe how well young defender Joe Gomez played against Manchester United.

The former Charlton Athletic man started the game at right-back and had the unenviable task of keeping tabs on Anthony Martial.

Gomez is getting a reputation as the man for a big game after his man of the match showing against Arsenal and he was outstanding again.

French attacker Martial was quiet for the whole game, so much so that the Daily Mail and the Telegraph gave him a match rating of five while the Mirror ranked him as a six.

For a team with the defensive problems of Liverpool’s, keeping a clean sheet against one of the best attacks in the league was a great effort.

Although Jose Mourinho set his side out to defend, it still look an excellent performance to ensure the Reds didn’t concede.

And that’s why Gomez was given a seven by the Daily Mail and the Telegraph, but strangely a poor six from the Mirror.

At Rush The Kop, we thought the young right-back played much better than that and handed him an eight.

Scroll down and read through the comments from fans, who all though the defender played out of his skin.

However, it wasn’t all good things for the Reds as failings in front of goal reared their ugly head again. Jurgen Klopp needs to get the attackers to be more clinical if this season is going to end well.

Whether or not that means trusting Daniel Sturridge more or throwing Danny Ings or Dominic Solanke into the team as a main striker remains to be seen, but the team does need to be more clinical.
