Liverpool player ratings: Midfield

This is why Klopp signed Oxlade-Chamberlain. He’s not going to displace any of the ‘Fab Four’ as a starter but he is good enough to come into games like this and be productive. He put in a wonderful fizzing cross in the second half that Mane couldn’t quite get a toe on. The reality is that the drop off is just too much and takes away much of our danger and fear factor.. RIght Midfield. Liverpool. ALEX OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN. 7

7. Made seven thousand passes today. That is only a slight exaggeration. Helped Liverpool crush the Toffees with possession. He helped spread the ball wide causing their defense to be stretched and force Rooney and Sigurdsson back into defensive situations, killing the Everton attack.. Center Midfield. Liverpool. JORDAN HENDERSON

A professional, calm head in for the derby game. Did a ton of hard work, pressing Everton at every opportunity and playing smart passes in possession. The trouble with pairing Milner and Henderson is that the midfield lacks that little bit of pace, creativity and drive to overwhelm the opposition.. Center Midfield. Liverpool. JAMES MILNER. 7

7. Had a great chance to send Liverpool 2-0 up just before the break but dragged his chance wide. Asked to do more defensively in the 442 formation than he is in the usual 433. Came close to goal of the season with an overhead kick but it didn’t quite make it. Really missed having Roberto Firmino whose movement creates space for him.. Left Midfield. Liverpool. SADIO MANE
