Liverpool fans are angry with defender Joel Matip’s performance against Leicester City on Saturday afternoon.

The former Cameroon international made a mistake to allow England striker Jamie Vardy to net the first goal of the game after just three minutes.

After Reds manager Jurgen Klopp splashed £75 million on Southampton stopper Virgil van Dijk, there will be increased pressure on the club’s current crop to up their game.

But it’s not only Matip that’ll be in the headlights. Dejan Lovren has not had a perfect season by any stretch and his place will also be under pressure.

The Mirror handed out a lowely five to the former Schalke man, The Star was feeling a bit more generous and gave Matip a six and respected fan website This Is Anfield also handed the man a six.

But many Liverpool fans were not happy with how he performed, and weren’t shy on vocalising their displeasure. Scroll down to see what they said!

Matip actually hasn’t had a terrible season and has started 15 league games this campaign with an average rating of 7.08, according to WhoScored.

When he was introduced to Merseyside there was big expectation from the terrace that he could lead a defensive revival, but that hasn’t quite materialised.

With the introduction of van Dijk, though, perhaps it will enable Matip to take his game to the next level as the extra defensive solidity could give him more confidence in his team.
