No.5: Better Defense

It was all too easy in the second half for Manchester City in September. Yes we only had 10 men but they cut through the side with worrying ease. Yet there are a number of factors and improvements that indicate Liverpool will be much better off this week.

Obviously the addition of Virgil van Dijk is going to help with the pace of the Manchester City forwards. The Dutchman gives the Reds far more recovery pace in the center than they’ve had with Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren and Ragnar Klavan.

Speaking of Klavan, you would not be in the least bit worried if he was named in the starting eleven this time round. That is because he has worked hard to be a consistent performer in defense.

Joe Gomez now has 6 months of Premier League experience at right back to go with his tremendous talent. I expect him to get the nod over Trent Alexander-Arnold who struggled against de Bruyne.

Alberto Moreno maybe fit but I see no issue with Andrew Robertson starting. He was Man-of-the-Match against Everton in the FA Cup. I’d love to see him up against Raheem Sterling on Sunday. This will be the biggest test yet of an improved Liverpool defensive unit but I think they are up to the job.
