A Liverpool move for Naby Keita in January would take the pressure off the rest of the club’s business in the transfer window.

Waiting is hard. Nobody likes it. Whether it is Christmas, birthday or next holiday most of us hate having to count the days until we get what we are looking forward to. Liverpool are currently experiencing some of that impatience as they look to bring Naby Keita to Anfield in the January transfer window.

Liverpool have entered discussions with Red Bull Leipzig over forwarding the agreed move of Keita. RB Leipzig have previously said that there is no way that they would let him go midseason. But as Liverpool found out with Philippe Coutinho, a disgruntled player and a bundle of cash can change a club’s position.

The player clearly wants to move now. He was gutted in the summer that RB Leipzig delayed the transfer for a year. He has not grown any happier about the situation and is sulking his way around training.

The capture of Keita in January – even at a cost of £17 million extra – would be a huge boost for Liverpool. It would take the pressure off their transfer business in the rest of this window.

Many fans are angry that Coutinho was allowed to go in the middle of the season at a crucial moment. It looks like any potential replacements will not be available in this transfer window. Monaco are reluctant to sell Thomas Lemar now, even with a huge bid. Liverpool have already indicated they will go for Christian Pulisic in the summer.

The Liverpool midfield is crying out for the energy that Keita offers. As the Reds compete in three competitions they need the extra body after Coutinho’s departure. He would be ineligible in the Champions league but essential in the push for second place and the FA Cup.
