Liverpool are receiving some thanks from Hull City fans after on-loan forward Harry Wilson scores again for the Tigers as they climb the Championship table.

It is unusual that Liverpool Football Club will receive anything positive from another club’s fanbase. So the emphatic praise from Hull City fans may come as a bit of surprise. That is until you realize that Harry Wilson is the business.

Wilson is being dubbed ‘The Welsh Messi’ after his loan spell is sparking a revival of fortune for the Tigers. The 20-year-old forward has three goals, two assists and has won a penalty in just three league starts and two appearances from the bench.

Just last weekend he scored the winner in 4-3 win over Norwich City. That performance clinched him a place in the Championship Team-of-the-Week as the highest ranked player on whoscored.com.

He grabbed another goal in midweek – the second in Hull’s 3-0 victory over Ipswich Town. That has put his side nine points clear of the relegation zone with nine games left to play. They are up to seventeenth and, while there is much still to do, relegation is looking less likely by the week.

That has Hull fans thanking Liverpool for the loan. However they are noting that this loan really just makes up for the ‘robbery’ of Andrew Robertson. The Scottish left back moved to Anfield in the summer for a fee of £8 million + £2 million add ons.

That would be a bargain after his fantastic performances. But if you add in the transfer of Kevin Stewart the other way for £8 million, the word ‘robbery’ is not highly inappropriate. Stewart has been as poor for Hull as Robertson has been brilliant for Liverpool.

The Harry Wilson loan goes someway to make amends for those one-sided deals. The real question is whether or not the Welshman has done enough to force his way into Jurgen Klopp’s first team plans for nest season.
