Liverpool fans cannot believe the latest reports of Emre Can’s contract demands with many deciding that they want to see him move on this summer.
It has been Emre Can’s best season for Liverpool. He has been manager Jurgen Klopp’s most trusted midfielder in a unit that has often lacked consistency. This has led many Liverpool fans to implore the club to sign him to a new deal and not let him walk out on a free transfer this summer.
However reports of his contract demands are changing opinions of the German. Initially the disagreement between club and player was down to a minimum fee release clause that the club did not want to include. But it turns out it is £200k-a-week pay demands that are the true sticking point.
Finding out that he wants to be the best paid player in the club’s history has led to many fans going to Twitter to tell him he can leave! And in particular that he can ‘jog on’. Presumably to Juventus or Bayern Munich.
The reports this morning that Emre Can wants 200k a week to stay at @LFC have made me angry. Who does he think he is? Good player yes. But highest earner at the club? Thanks but no thanks. Jog on son.

Emre Can must be quite the comedian if stories that he's demanding 200k per week are true. Jog on. #LFC #EmreCan

The worst case scenario for Reds is that he could move to a Premier League rival. Only three clubs can afford to reach those wage demands. Manchester United is unlikely because they are so far away from challenging and Can would be hated on Merseyside forever. Antonio Conte looks a dead-man-walking at Chelsea and so there is much uncertainty there. That leaves Manchester City as the lone Premier League who could snap him up.
Playing for Bayern Munich will increase his chances of starting at international level but he will be competing with a host of midfielders including fellow free agent Leon Goretzka. Therefore Juventus remains the favorite for his signature. His style of play would suit the Italian giants and he would be a natural improvement for Sami Khedira.

Liverpool will certainly be in the market for a midfielder or two this summer. Current favorites are Napoli star Jorginho, Real Madrid playmaker Dani Ceballos and Leicester anchor man Wilfrid Ndidi.
