Liverpool Player Ratings: Midfield

JORDAN HENDERSON. 6. When given a ‘box-to-box’ role he is a very good midfielder. Given the deeper role he becomes very average indeed. I still think we are better with him than without him; his effort alone is not something we have tons of in the midfield. Good news for Reds is that he usually has his best games on the biggest occasion and we have a few of those coming up.. Center Midfield. Liverpool

JAMES MILNER. 8. Anonymous in the first half but really took charge of the game early in the second. His link up play with Robertson made Liverpool’s best opportunities and he grabbed a fantastic assist with his drilled cross. The best of the midfield three today. Has he done enough to start against Man City in midweek?. Center Midfield. Liverpool

5. ‘Away Gini’ is real. Inexplicably ran the ball out of play in the top right corner of the field under little real pressure. A passenger for the 65 minutes he was on the pitch and offered none of the bite or creativity needed for this type of Premier League fixture.. Center Midfield. Liverpool. GINI WIJNALDUM
