Liverpool Player Ratings: Defenders

Making his first appearance in the first team this season after missing most of the year with injury. Klopp would have surely liked to ease him into a game not that wasn’t so important but the England international took things steadily and did not risk too much. A decent cross gave Solanke Liverpool’s first real chance of the game but he only ventured forward once more in the entire game.. Right Back. Liverpool. NATHANIEL CLYNE. 7

DEJAN LOVREN. 6. Lovren handled Tosun with ease. No pace and trickery from the Everton side made it a relatively easy afternoon for him. A dodgy pass in the first half gave the ball to Wayne Rooney who promptly gave it back. Another silly moment late on was not capitalized on but overall Lovren held it tight.. Center Back. Liverpool

Another nerveless performance from the big man. His leadership skills were on full display as he ordered irregular his full backs into the right spots at the right times. That was vital today for the clean sheet. Had two free kicks; the first was hit well but too easy for Pickford to catch on the full; the second went flying out of play and elicited a smile from Klopp.. Center Back. Liverpool. VIRGIL VAN DIJK. 7

Liverpool. RAGNAR KLAVAN. 6. Ragnar Klavan: Cult hero. Average Footballer. Did fine in an unnatural left back role. Many were worried with how Walcott would press the Estonian with pace but there was nothing to see here. Klavan did his job. Did it well. Decent.. Left Back
