No.1 – Keeper Confidence

Reason number one for Liverpool’s number one. Loris Karius has built upon his promising introduction to the first team to put together a series of brilliant performances in recent weeks. He has conceded only four goals in the last 10 LFC fixtures. And one of those was a penalty against Crystal Palace.

The prospect of seeing excellent play from the position this season seemed impossible in January. Simon Mignolet was clumsily killing his Liverpool career while Karius had been okay in the Champions League group stage but had not impressed enough to unseat the Belgian.

Jurgen Klopp shifted to the German as the first choice keeper after Mignolet helped us collapse out of the FA Cup against West Brom. While many thought Karius would be better nobody expected him to be this good.

There have long been rumors that the club will be in for a keeper this summer. The common rumors are that Jan Oblak of Atletico Madrid, Alisson Becker of AS Roma and Jack Butland of Stoke City are in consideration. If Karius maintains this form then those transfer plans are likely to be scrapped.

Going into this game tomorrow night I am guessing there is more concern from City fans over their keeper than there is from Reds about Karius. That is a welcome turn of events.
