No.2: An Arm Around Karius

One of the great surprises of 2018 has been how the goalkeeping crisis of January has been totally abated by the form of Loris Karius. The German keeper has made the position his own after being handed the gloves in January.

Most evident has been his growing confidence. There seems to be at least one high quality save from him in every game and an increasing assuredness in his command of the area. However a couple of errors against West Brom may crack that confidence.

He flapped at a corner in the first half but got away with it as their was no-one at the back stick for West Brom to tuck it away. For the equalizer he got caught in no-mans-land leaving a big old empty net for Rondon to head into. No-mans-land is the one place a keeper does not want to be.

You get the feeling that confidence is paramount with Karius. When he has it he is a very good goalie. When it’s gone, well, you might as well have Simon Mignolet standing between the posts. Klopp is going to need to be on top of his hug game to coax confidence back into his keeper ahead of the Roma game.
