Liverpool Player Ratings: Defenders

6. A huge night for the youngster and he played like it was a bit too much for him. There was plenty of good stuff, some great passes. He was badly beaten for the Roma second goal after missing his interception. Made a great block in a goal mouth scramble but the replay showed it was actually a handball.. Right Back. Liverpool. TRENT ALEXANDER-ARNOLD

6. His attempted clearance that cannoned into the Liverpool net off James Milner’s head gave Roma hope when the early goal looked to end the tie. To be fair to the Croatian he got good contact on the ball and it was a fluke goal. More worrying were the long balls over his head and the bullying he received from Dzeko in the second half.. Center Back. Liverpool. DEJAN LOVREN

Center Back. Liverpool. VIRGIL VAN DIJK. 8. Brilliant again. Dealt with every single thing that came near him. Clever little push on the defender for Wijnaldum’s goal. A mountain of human being. We never get to the final without this signing. An incredible transfer that has helped take us to our first Champions League final for 11 years.

8. Great delivery for Wijnaldum’s header. He was fearless again in attacking Roma’s right hand side and causing them huge problems. Ran past three Roma players early in the second half and was ready for the one-two with Salah but the Egyptian was offside. As good a left back as there is on the planet in 2018.. Left Back. Liverpool. ANDREW ROBERTSON
