Philippe Coutinho

After the debacle surrounding Raheem Sterling and the loss of Luis Suarez to Barcelona, this was another nail in the coffin of Liverpool fans’ dreams of a title winning team.

It was also Philippe Coutinho’s dream move, and one he did his best to engineer. An injury was the official reason the Brazilian was left out of the Champions League squad for the group stages, but everyone suspected the true reason was that so Coutinho wouldn’t cup-tie himself.

Just check out all the parody videos that surfaced around the time of the initial speculation. This was a man desperate to make a deal happen, and that mysterious thigh problem certainly didn’t convince fans.

Coutinho eventually got his wish in January, after a fairly destabilizing period of the club. He had a magic six months, but the team didn’t suffer and it’s probably for the best that this period has now been called time on.
