This Twitter thread between Andrew Robertson and Virgil van Dijk will 100% warm your cockles.

The pair got around a post by the club’s official account that linked to an interview the Dutch international did with the Anfield media team in which he confessed that he’s wanted to play with Robertson for years.

In response to the original tweet, the Scottish left-back made a self-deprecating reference to the UK smash hit sitcom The Inbetweeners, while van Dijk went old school with a Mr. Bean gif. Both classics, both solid.

But the nuts and bolts of it is this: when he was at Celtic, the central defender admired the way Robertson went about his game for Dundee and VVD even wanted him to join the Bhoys.

"“Obviously when I came to Celtic, in my first season he played at Dundee United and I already thought he’s a very good player and I thought at that time he should join Celtic,” the website reported that he said.“I think I said it to one of the scouting guys as well – sometimes I like to give my opinion on players. He’s just a great player, [he] works hard. If you need ratings of a game, I don’t think he’d ever go lower than a six,” enthused the Dutch captain."

Van Dijk finally got his wish in January this year when Liverpool signed him from Southampton for a record breaking £75 million.

Manager Jurgen Klopp finally snagged him man after a protracted chase and the former Southampton star instantly transformed the fortune of the Reds’ back four.

Robertson had a much more difficult start to life on Merseyside and initially struggled for minutes. Alberto Moreno was playing well and there wasn’t room from him in the side as a consequence of that.

But then Moreno picked up an injury and the summer signing replaced him, and has gone from strength to strength ever since. In fact, he’s played so well that some have labeled Robertson as the best value transfer this season – not Mohamed Salah.

The Liverpool defence is certainly stronger for having both players in the team, and it warms the cockles to see them both interact in this way!
