A UK based journalist has trashed transfer rumours that linked Liverpool with a move for World Cup star Kasper Schmeichel.

Dominic King, who writes for the Daily Mail, has rubbished reports that the Reds are about to move for Leicester City and Denmark stopper Schmeichel.

The Dane is recovering from being dumped out of the competition on penalties to Croatia. Scheichel’s personal efforts weren’t enough to stop his nation exiting at the last 16 stage of the tournament, despite saving three penalties over the course of the clash.

Liverpool have been linked with a massive number of new stoppers this transfer window, and the Foxes man is the latest to have been talked about as replacing Loris Karius.

Karius had a nightmare Champions League final and his place appears to be under threat, although manager Jurgen Klopp isn’t one to bow down to peer pressure and will only give his goalkeeper the boot if he feels its absolutely necessary.

King certainly doesn’t think that the club would go for Schmeichel, if they decided to make such a move. Despite some bookmakers having Anfield as their odds on next stop for the player, the journalist has claimed that he simply isn’t on Liverpool’s shortlist.

The 31-year-old has been at Leicester since 2011, who signed him for just over £1.5 million from Leeds United. During that time he’s been their undisputed no. 1 and has featured 296 times for the Foxes.

Meanwhile, new signings Fabinho and Naby Keita have joined first team training for the first time since they agreed to join the Reds.
