This stat about Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson and his England career will prove that he’s the nation’s best ever.
Henderson started the Three Lion’s must-win last 16 game against Colombia and helped Gareth Southgate’s team to a win.
After the final score remained 1-1, even after extra time, it took a tense penalty shootout to decide the clash. Henderson may have missed his, but he was the only England player to do so as they went through to the quarter-final.
But that doesn’t take away from the former Sunderland player’s importance to Southgate or to the side, and after the game Opta tweeted a stat that confirms this. In a strictly statistical sense, it may even make the 28-year-old England’s best ever.

According to their records, the Three Lions haven’t lost any of their last 28 matches while Henderson has been on the pitch. This streak includes 22 wins and six draws, and is the longest unbeaten run of any player in the country’s history.
Despite that penalty miss, which would have been crucial on another day, the midfielder still had a good game and was handed a match rating of 7/10 by the Guardian, and 8/10 by Sky Sports and a disappointing 6/10 by the BBC.

England will now take on Sweden on Saturday as they entertain hopes of reaching the World Cup final and finally bringing football home. Southgate will be confident of victory, but must still be wary against the side who beat a strong Switzerland side 1-0.
Interestingly, 26-year-old midfielder Emil Forsberg hit the winning goal for the Scandinavian side. Forsberg has been linked with a move to Liverpool by the Express, who wrote that the player indicated he wanted to move to a bigger club after the World Cup.
