No.1 – International Hangover

There can be much division within the Liverpool fanbase on almost every issue relating to the club. The one thing we all agree on is that we hate the international break. I don’t know if there has ever been a study about which team’s players get most injured on international duty but we don’t need one; it is clearly Liverpool Football Club.

This latest round of internationals has brought fresh injuries to Virgil van Dijk (ribs), Sadio Mane (thumb), Naby Keita (thigh) and Mohamed Salah (hamstring). That is four quality players who are all in jeopardy of missing the trip to Huddersfield.

Even if they do make it they will be banged up. That is not ideal for an away trip against a physical side who are fighting for survival in the Premier League. Add to that the travel and lack of rest for all the players who were on international duty.

The Terriers had just six players who played for their countries this week. And two of those were in Under 21 internationals. I am convinced they will be better rested and prepared for this specific fixture.

That alone is enough to make me nervous never mind all the other reasons I have to bite my nails this weekend…
