9: Daniel Agger
19-year-old Daniel Agger cost just £5.8 million from Brøndby after earning rave reviews in Denmark. Things could have been so much more for the composed Dane, who suffered terribly with injury.
232 appearances might point towards a productive 10-year spell – but that averages out at around 23 per season and 2006/2007 and 2014/2015 were total disasters as Agger played just six games combined.
His general defensive skill meant that the Dane was always held in high regard by the Anfield faithful – and in big moments he did step up. One of these was in the Champions League semi-final second leg against Chelsea, in which Agger was named man of the match.
His Anfield career should have been so much bigger, so much better. He could have even been still playing now, and there is no doubt that Jurgen Klopp would have loved Agger.
But injuries robbed him of that as the defender retired aged just 31 after giving his Brøndby career a second crack. So sad.
