Football Manager stories: Can Timo Werner lead Liverpool to glory?
Season three
Phew, that was a nerve racking transfer window. Despite a few outs (Xherdan Shaqiri flopped like a house of cards in the wind and was promptly moved on), there wasn’t much transfer activity.
But that means Werner still has Firmino in front of him in the pecking order, and Klopp loves Bobby like a first-born child. And really annoyingly, Werner is still feeding off scraps as he watches his professional career go down the swanny.
With only five Premier League starts, the forward is restricted to substitute appearances and only scored seven goals – four in the league.
Werner isn’t the only underperformer though as Klopp got the sack for leading the Reds to fifth in the league and no trophies. Thomas Tuchel has been brought in, so lets see if that’s good news for Werner.
To be honest, this experiment has not gone how I expected it and by the end of season three Werner is on the transfer list with an asking price of half his value. Salah, Firmino and Mane play so many games that there isn’t really place for him in the squad.
This is a disaster and I can’t believe he’s been so poorly managed! Firmino in the way has been an absolute killer, but the club are hardly likely to hook the Brazilian.
