Liverpool vs Arsenal: Five things to watch for as Klopp looks to lay a marker
Does the Ox get another start in midfield?
After the European Super Cup performance, you’d be forgiven for thinking that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain wasn’t fit enough for duty. But that’s why we’re not in charge of this Liverpool team, Klopp is.
And Klopp knows what’s up. He didn’t drop the Ox, or send him for some more work on the training ground. He reinstated the former Gunner to his favoured midfield position and gave him time to make an impact.
Oxlade-Chamberlain was able to do just that, and looked like a much improved version of his mid-week self. That’s an excellent thing for Liverpool.
But now what will Jurgen do? Jordan Henderson and Fabinho will both be rested, as will the rest of the squad. Keeping the Ox in the side will be a massive show of faith in the English lad, who should be buzzing to play his former side.
When he plays well, Oxlade-Chamberlain offers so much for midfield – but the balance will have to be maintained. This is a good group of players, and you can imagine Klopp is highly tempted to hand the Ox another 90 minutes from central midfield.
