Liverpool 2-1 Chelsea: Five positives as Firmino and Alexander-Arnold fire Reds to victory
The full-backs continue to show last season was no fluke
Last season Andy Robertson and Alexander-Arnold re-wrote the rule book and broke records for fun as they both hit double figures for assists and waged war down the left and right flank.
They now sit on two a piece as Robbo crossed for Firmino to head the second home on Sunday, while TAA also has that free-kick goal to his name as well.
And while Mohamed Salah had something to prove last campaign – and he did it beautifully – Robertson and Alexander-Arnold now need to show they can consistently deliver assists and provide a threat in wide areas.
Klopp replies on them to provide a key part of the game time and in all honesty, there isn’t anyone else in the squad who can come in and do the same job. James Milner is Robbo’s reserve while Joe Gomez will cover Trent – neither are full-backs by trade.
So in many ways, the full-backs need to show last season was no fluke if Liverpool are to win trophies this season. And their current form is a huge positive, especially in the big games.
