Liverpool fans are approaching the latest news of the UEFA investigation into Man City finances with a mixture of cynicism and humor.

You may think a UEFA investigation into the finances of Man City would bring some joy and hope to Liverpool fans. You’d be wrong. Reds have been responding to latest news with resigned humor.

The Reds beat Man City 3-1 at Anfield on Sunday and the two clubs have been alone battling at the top of the Premier League for the last two seasons.

On the face of it, Man City could be banned from European Competition and if the transgressions were found to break Premier League rules they could be deducted points. There is also the specter of transfer ban.

However, Liverpool fans believe that nothing (or next-to-nothing) will be the result:

The fans are predicted that a nominal fine will be dished out. What do fines mean to the richest club in the world? They aren’t worried about losing money, that’s why they are in trouble in the first place. While that would be a ridiculous solution we can’t rule it out.

When FSG took over the ownership of Liverpool Football Club they were very vocal about the implementation of financial fair-play rules. They believe that if clubs like Man City, Chelsea and PSG can be prevented from ‘financial doping’ then the global reach of Liverpool will prosper over the newly wealthy clubs.

The issue is back in the news as Manchester City have lost an appeal to prevent the UEFA investigation as reported by Sky Sports.

Man City are the current favorites to win this season’s Champions League with Liverpool as second favorites. Any ban will likely be applied next season. But if you believe that is going to happen you are a more optimistic person than me.
