Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dejan LovrenVirgil Van Dijk, James Milner

Klopp doesn’t have a lot of wiggle room with his defence but he’s done well with the few resources at his disposal. Joel Matip’s continued injury problems have left the German with his hands tied and thus Dejan Lovren has experienced a resurgence next to Virgil van Dijk.

Joe Gomez was started ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold on Wednesday and Liverpool suffered going forward as a result. Alexander-Arnold will come back into the side, hopefully refreshed, and Gomez will drop back to the bench.

Andrew Robertson is vital to the side but he will need to be rested at some point. He could have sat out of the Crystal Palace win but played, despite suffering continued ankle pain, and should be rested for the Everton game next week.

Gomez could come in at left-back, but that’s unlikely. James Milner being picked there is more realistic and he’ll come into the side in order to make sure Robertson is fresh as a daisy for the massive Toffies game.

Milner won’t give the team the same going forward but his range of passing is arguably better than Robbo’s and his engine is among the best in the squad. He’s a better option than Gomez and will perform a professional role down that flank.
