Liverpool Player Ratings: Midfield

Liverpool. GINI WIJNALDUM. 7. Given the ‘number 6’ role tonight he made sure the back four had cover and that the Reds kept the ball. Seems strange to think he was dropped for the game against Barcelona, such is his importance in big games.. Defender

8.5. The captain put in one of those games that makes his (many) detractors look very stupid indeed. Looked a class above anything Salzburg had in the middle of the park and was instrumental in the Reds controlling the game so well and winning relatively easily in the end.. Midfielder. Liverpool. JORDAN HENDERSON

9. The way to follow up a goal and a man-of-the-match performance in the Premier League is to do the exact same thing in the Champions League. This is the Naby Keita we dreamed about in Red when his transfer was announced back in 2017. He doesn’t really dribble; he glides. His first touch is flawless and he can unlock a defense with a pass which he did on numerous occasions tonight. Powered his header home giving Liverpool command of the fixture. Man-of-the-match.. Midfielder. Liverpool. NABY KEITA
