Liverpool have an injury crisis in defense as Jurgen Klopp confirms Dejan Lovren is ruled out and will be covered by two players from the youth side.

Liverpool will be missing Dejan Lovren tomorrow for the visit of Watford in the Premier League but he maybe missing for some time as Jurgen Klopp spoke about the injury in his pre-match press conference.

Until now, it has been a week of good news for Liverpool fans. Qualifying for the Champions League knock out stage was followed by news of a transfer deal for Takumi Minamino. That was all arguably surpassed today by the announcement that Jurgen Klopp has signed a contract extension.

Because we can’t just have nice things there has to be some bad news too. Lovren left both the win over Bournemouth and the victory over Red Bul Salzburg with injury though it appears this latest muscle problem is more serious.

The manager is already missing Joel Matip with a knee complaint and defensive midfielder Fabinho to an ankle injury. The Brazilian is the emergency cover for the central defenders.

That leaves just Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez as the only fit first team center backs. When asked about what the club will do in this situation, Klopp indicated they will look to two highly regarded youngsters: Sepp van den Berg and Ki-Jana Hoever.

The timing is terrible as the Reds head into the busiest time of the year. The are playing (at least) two times a week until the new year and have the World Club Cup in Qatar to traverse.
