Alisson

Alisson has been in amazing form throughout January and that point is proven when you consider he has only conceded once all month.

The questions that were asked about Liverpool’s defence have been vanquished and it feels great to be the team with the best record in the league. There’s no doubt that the pairing of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez has helped, but Alisson has pulled off some tremendous saves as well.

It’s not just his shot stopping though. The Brazilian’s aggressive positioning and his ability to find a pass under pressure allow the Reds to vary how they start attacks. We can go short, spread play wide to the full-backs or go more direct and hit Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah on the break. His passing success rate of 83% highlights just how good he is with the ball at his feet and you can’t underestimate that sort of ability.

Alisson is coming back to his best form and he’s doing it at a prime moment. The Reds are now 22 points clear at the top of the league but without the bearded genius that lead would be a lot less.

He’s transformed the way the club operates and he’s transformed how they played in January as well.
