2-1 at Anfield, April 2010

A week after losing in Madrid, Liverpool needed to win at Merseyside to reach the final of the Europa League. The Reds got the lead thanks to Alberto Aquilani who found the net after meeting Yossi Benayoun’s cross.

No more goals were scored and the aggregate was 1-1 at the end of regular time so extra-time was played. Benayoun, who assisted Liverpool’s first, scored their second in the 95th minute. However, Forlan who scored the winner in the first leg, found the net after cashing in on a pass from Jose Antonio Reyes.

Liverpool won the match 2-1 and but Atleti progressed to the final on away goals. Los Rojiblancos went on to win the Europa League by beating Fulham 2-1 with both goals being scored by Forlan who would win the Golden Ball at the World Cup only months later.
