Midfield

Jordan Henderson. 7. . Liverpool.

Went close with a volley after some quick, incisive approach play lead to the rare chance. Found himself all over the park and looked to get forward more after the break, but ran himself into the ground and hobble off. The injury is a concern, hopefully it’s not too serious.

5. . Liverpool. . Georginio Wijnaldum

Struggled to impose himself on the game as Madrid were happy to retreat into their structured 4-4-2 shape. Needed more creativity and drive from central areas, but Wijnaldum didn’t really provide that and lacked spark today. It’s not a unique criticism of him, mind, when the rest of the forwards were guilty of that as well.

. Liverpool. . Fabinho. 7

Had a good first half, apart from one moment where he let Morato cut inside and get a shot away. Alisson was more than comfortable in making the save, but it was a poor moment from the defensive midfielder. But apart from that lapse, he did Fabinho things all night as he made those tackles and interceptions that we’ve come to expect from the midfielder.
