Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren is wanted by two Premier League rivals, who will go toe-to-toe for his signature.

Jurgen Klopp’s fourth choice defender is going to be in demand this summer after barely featuring for the German this season.

With just nine Premier League appearances and 14 in all competitions, Dejan Lovren will have to leave Anfield in order to secure first team football elsewhere.

But the identity of the clubs who want the Croatian are surprising. The Mirror have reported that Tottenham and Arsenal want the 30-year-old, who will be available for nothing in 2021.

After featuring in the Champions League and World Cup final, Lovren has got plenty of experience playing at a high level as well as 57 international caps and 161 Premier League appearances.

He was playing well for a brief period when Joel Matip and Joe Gomez were out because of injury, although when Lovren was reintroduced to the first team against Watford it resulted in a 3-0 loss and a difficult performance for the Croat and Virgil van Dijk.

But for Arsenal and Tottenham to want to make a move for the Croatian is odd. He’s going to be over 30 by the time the summer comes around, isn’t the most consistent performer and would command high wages to fill a role as a squad player.

For Dejan Lovren, you can’t see how the move would fulfil his ambitions. Aside from picking up a nice, final pay packet, Spurs and the Gunners wouldn’t give him the 30 games a season that he needs to prove the doubters wrong – but another team potentially could.

Whatever happens, this summer will be interesting for Liverpool. There’s going to be a slight rebuild as Adam Lallana and Xherdan Shaqiri look set to leave Anfield as well while Rhian Brewster will return from a good loan spell with Swansea City.
