Daniel Sjolund // West Ham United // £1,000,000

Daniel Sjölund joined Liverpool from West Ham for a tidy sum, but never made a single appearance for either club.

He went on to have a decent career in Sweden and Finland, making 339 appearances and picked up 36 international caps in the mean time.

But Sjolund could never cut the mustard with the Reds during his two years at Anfield and left for €500k to Djurgarden.

Frode Kippe // Lillestrøm // £700,000

Frode Kippe was another dreadful signing by Liverpool and made just two appearances in three years before being loaned out to Stoke and released on a free.

Kippe was never really quick enough to make it in the English top flight as his only games came in the League Cup against Hull and Grimsby.

There’s not much else to be said about this player, who was a complete waste of £700,000.

Erik Meijer, Liverpool

Erik Meijer // Leverkusen // Free

Another bad move for a really average striker, Erik Meijer scored just two goals for Liverpool in his 27 appearances and left for nothing.

He worked hard, but never really did much and didn’t have the skills to back up his physical attributes.

It was a free transfer, but it still didn’t work out and Meijer found himself as fourth choice striker. He arrived on a free, left on a free and didn’t contribute much in between.
