Liverpool have been linked with an odd move for Monaco striker Wissam Ben Yedder, who is wanted by several other top flight clubs.

The Daily Mail has reported that Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool are looking at the Ligue 1 forward, who has scored 18 goals in the French top flight this campaign.

Sevilla inserted a £35 million release clause into his contract, which Monaco were happy to activate, and so far it’s worked out well for the side.

Wissam Ben Yedder started his career with Toulouse, before the La Liga outfit picked him up for a bargain £8.55 million in 2016. 70 goals and 22 assists followed, but after 138 games it was time for the French international to depart Spain for France.

He’s started his Monaco career very well, and Barcelona have even been credited with interest, and now there could be another step in his fairly limited career so far.

But it’s a bit of an odd one, given that the forward is 29-years-old and would cost almost as much as Timo Werner – if Liverpool moved to activate his release clause before it expired.

He’s also got fairly limited big game experience, with only eight caps for France and 14 Champions League appearances under his belt. Although, to give the forward credit, those 14 European clashes have yielded 10 goals.

One way this could be seen as a good transfer is if Jurgen Klopp saw Ben Yedder as a fairly cheap(ish) but good option who could be used as a back-up player. It would require Divock Origi to be sold, although that probably wouldn’t encounter too many issues from the fans.

Would Monaco accept just £5 million more than what they paid for a striker who is scoring at a good rate? The thought of turning a quick profit might be tempting, although the small size of that profit might reduce the attractiveness of that offer.
