Liverpool do not need to spend millions on backups
By Minh Nguyen
It is that time of the year where transfer rumors start piling in. However, unless it’s for a big splash—possibly Timo Werner— there is no reason for Liverpool to be spending money in the summer transfer window.
As great as Liverpool have been this season, their depth off the bench has been mediocre. There are no natural full-backs and there is an overall lack of an ability to provide a spark.
Last years’ super subs Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri have both failed to make an impact this season which has started rumors about their departures from the club.
So, it’s easy to see why names such as Willian, Joaquin Correa, and Denis Zakaria have been linked with the club in recent weeks. However, as impactful as these players could potentially be, the Reds would be better off not splashing the cash on them.
With the current state of football and finances, there are no guarantees that outside reinforcement will be available for a reasonable price.
Instead, Liverpool should bolster the bench from the inside. There is an abundance of promising talents within the club that has yet to get a real opportunity with the first-team. Particularly, players like Takumi Minamino, Curtis Jones, Neco Williams, Harvey Elliott, and Ki-Jana Hoever have shown real promise when they are given an opportunity.
Stick with us as we go through them all in the slides below.
