Latest Liverpool news shows empire building ambitions.

Clubs who are set up for long-term success generally have very clear structures set in place to ensure this domination.

They identify a successful way of playing, put in place the right sort of recruitment structure to bring in the right sort of players independent of who the manager is, and they appoint bosses who meet their requirements

Another thing that will be looked at and brought under this umbrella is the youth structure, and this is what Liverpool have started to look at.

Their latest news involves the appointment of a new U23 and U18 coach. Neil Critchley was given the Blackpool job and that left a vacuum at the top of the second string, which has now been filled.

Barry Lewtas, who was formally the U18 coach, has been moved up a grade and his old job has been filled by Marc Bridge-Wilkinson.

Bridge-Wilkinson formally lead the U16 side. This will ensure consistency across the board as Liverpool look to create a similar playing culture across all three teams – the first team, the U23s and the U18s.

Lewtas and Bridge-Wilkinson will also know the new cohort of players who are moving up to join their new group for the next season.

Any side who wants to create an empire needs to have these sorts of structures in place. There’s no point producing a cohort of graduates who doesn’t know how to play the type of football that Jurgen Klopp requires.

Without consistency across the board, Curtis Jones might not have been given the chance to have an impact with the first team, while Neco Williams might still be kicking it with the kids.

Liverpool are building for future dominance thanks to these moves, and although it’ll be a few years before it pays off, it’s going to pay off in a big way.
