Liverpool have announced a double signing.

The news comes as a return to top flight football was announced by the Premier League, which the league set to start on June 17th.

This gives Liverpool the chance to win the league during the away game to Everton, provided Arsenal manage to beat Manchester City.

Michael Edwards has used some of the downtime to streamline a few of the processes going on around Anfield.

After Neil Critchley left to take up the reigns at Blackpool, the club has been left with a power vacuum at the top of the U23 side.

That’s now been solved as a double deal for coaches has been announced.

A staff writer for the official club website has written that Barry Lewtas has left his role with the U18s and will take up Critchley’s old position.

Marc Bridge-Wilkinson will now take care of the U18s after serving his time with the U14 and U16 squads. That means he’ll be well versed with the strengths and weaknesses of the new cohort of U18 players when they arrive from his old U16 side.

After making more than 400 appearances across the football league, Bridge-Wilkinson will now oversee one of the most crucial steps in their development.

Academy manager Alex Inglethorpe said he was delighted with the appointment of Bridge-Wilkinson, and added that his experience as a player will be a massive boost to the youngsters learning under him.

"“He’s someone who is very passionate about improving his players as well as improving himself. As an individual he’s caring, patient and authentic.”"

Inglethorpe also praised the work that Lewtas has done throughout his career with Liverpool, and we all hope that will continue with the second string.

"“Barry has been at the club for quite a few years now and has progressed through various age groups. This is another step for him.“He creates a wonderful environment for the players and has struck a good balance between winning games and developing the talent we have.”"

It seems like the decision was made with a clear focus on continuity. Both the promoted men have worked within the Liverpool system and know the demands it places on coaches and the young players, and are well placed to see a strong thread go through all age-group systems to the first team.
