Liverpool have provided an update on James Milner and Joel Matip.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has said he hopes that the injury issues with the pair aren’t serious.

The duo started in the Merseyside Derby and both have to leave the field during the course of the game due to injury.

James Milner, who was playing left-back in place of Andrew Robertson, sustained a hamstring injury just before half-time and had to be replaced by Joe Gomez.

Joel Matip suffered an injury on his toe during the second half and Dejan Lovren replaced him.

Following the match, Klopp said that he isn’t sure regarding the extent of the duo’s injuries but hopes that it isn’t anything too serious.

"Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, the 53-year-old said: “Millie felt a hamstring a little bit, but we had this in the past. Millie is not often injured and hopefully it is not serious.“Joel was unlucky and we had to make a quick decision. It was a situation with Richarlison and he bent or stretched or his big toe.”More from Rush The KopSet to return, Virgil Van Dijk facing heavy criticism back homeLiverpool making late comebacks all the rage once againWolves tilt gives Klopp opportunity to tinker with lineup following international dutyPlayers to watch in the matchup with WolvesPredicting Liverpool’s Next Five Premier League Fixtures"

Liverpool’s first match following the resumption of football wasn’t something the fans would be too pleased as they were held to a draw by Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton. who had the best chance of the entire game with Tom Davies hitting the post during the second half.

The match was the third successive Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park that ended in a goalless draw.

Klopp will undoubtedly hope that the injury issues aren’t too serious with Milner and Matip as they’re useful backup options to have.

Following yesterday’s draw, the Reds will be hoping to bounce back in their next Premier League fixture which is against Crystal Palace at Anfield on Wednesday.

There’s a good chance that Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson will play so we could well see a much better performance from the team.

They were missing some attacking spark and the Takumi Minamino experiment didn’t really work, but Naby Keita put in a highly promising performance that will be built on moving forward.

Palace won their first game back and will be confident of taking points off Liverpool, who won’t be able to count on the Anfield crowd to raise them when they’re flat.
