Liverpool player ratings vs Villa: Ox a shadow, Robbo was Sunday league
Never has there been a greater exhibition of Roberto Firmino’s importance to Liverpool as a unit.
An hour in – Liverpool had created next to no chances, having less shots than the relegation threatened visitors.
Firmino – who was pictured nearly falling asleep in the first half – was the catalyst for change. He linked up so much better than his striking colleague Origi and shows the stark contrast in styles which Liverpool needed to adhere to.
He may have not scored a league goal at Anfield this season, but he is so, so crucial to this team.
The skipper came on alongside Firmino and really upped the tempo.
Many talk of him winning Footballer of the Year, and he again proved his sheer importance to the clockwork of this Liverpool midfield – this time taking Fabinho’s place at the six.
Solid as per usual from the Premier League winning captain. Deserved seven.
Didn’t see too much from Gini – he too came on alongside the aforementioned Firmino and Henderson in a wholesale change at the hour mark.
He clearly played his part – nothing spectacular, but what else do you expect from Gini?
Will probably be back in the side at Brighton after Ox’s mare tonight.
What a season it’s turning out to be for another Scouser in our team.
Curtis struck a deflected effort past Liverpool legend Pepe Reina to secure his first Premier League goal – and what a moment.
I’m sure it doesn’t better his rocket against Everton, but this lad is seriously going places in this Liverpool team.
It will be interesting to see if Jurgen Klopp thinks of starting him in a few games as the season comes towards it’s finish. But with eleven points needed to secure the century, he will go all out.
Neco came on at left-back in the 94th minute – not really applicable for a rating.
But, another appearance ticked off in the hunt for a medal, and more valuable experience gained. Nothing but positives for the Welshman.
