Liverpool player ratings – midfield

5. . . . Fabinho

He just wasn’t at it this evening offensively.

Fabinho’s interceptions, defensive work and general ethic were good – but that’s only half of what he brings. His passing was loose, overhit and shoddy in places.

Hopefully he is back to his best against Chelsea at Anfield.

. Gini Wijnaldum. 6. .

Gini has been defended this week after considerable criticism from Liverpool fans’ and performance tonight justifies why.

He was busy and ran the midfield in the first-half – covering the spaces voided by Andy Robertson on his forages forward – but lacked any real penetration when linking into the Arsenal penalty area.

7. . . . Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Ox, when he plays, brings energy and drive to the midfield which usually lacks penetration.

The former Arsenal man, who would’ve taken pleasure in the guard of honour given, put in a really solid display.

The guard of honour itself is proof of the correct decision Ox made when moving to Liverpool – and the progress he has made on and off the pitch.
