Liverpool want Marios Tzavidas.

The surprise announcement comes a few days after left-back Kostas Tsimikas joined the club from Olympiacos.

Nikos Tzouannis, journalist for Greek publication Nova Sports, tweeted that the Panathinaikos U17 striker Marios Tzavidas is attracting the interest of Liverpool.

Tzavidas is considered to be one of the most talented players of his generation, said Tzouannis. We’ve seen the Reds look to value in the market, but they’re not only trying to strengthen their senior side.

Back in July, Hellas Football added that Juventus and two Spanish clubs are also interested in the youngster, while it’s not even a given that he’ll sign professional terms with Panathinaikos.

There isn’t a lot of information to be found about the 16-year-old, other than one journalist’s recommendation and the rumour about Juve and a couple of sides from Spain.

Polish starlet Mateusz Musiałowski has joined the club from SMS Lodz after scoring 130 goals in 80 games, and the signing of Musialowski is another example of sporting director Michael Edwards working hard to improve all elements of the club.

It’s interesting to see Liverpool moving for another Greek player just days after securing the signing of Tsimikas. There must be an increased understanding of the area over the last six months, could we be seeing new ground broken in the search for undervalued markets?

The region isn’t one thought about in glowing terms. The Super League sits outside the top five European leagues, while players leaving from the Premier League to Greece usually fall off the radar completely.

However, we’ve seen teams like Olympiacos do well in Europe. They beat Arsenal over two legs and ran Wolves incredibly close in the Europa League as they equipped themselves well.

It’ll be interesting to see if Marios Tzavidas does join Liverpool in the end, but at the age of 16, we’ll have to wait a while to see if his rumoured potential comes true.
