Liverpool and Thiago have supplied this summer’s high drama.
The one thing that remains clear at this point is Thiago will complete a move this to Anfield this summer, or he won’t.
This much is clear.
Seriously.
There has been so much made of this drama in the media and the Liverpool fandom, the social media oracles – only the drama of Ben Hur could take longer to unfold.
News on the wire this morning has been widely reported across the sports journalism media that Thiago has agreed to a four year deal with the Reds.
And it goes even further down the yellow brick road to LaLa land, with Mane Babayan of VBET News claiming that Thiago has already said ‘adios’ to his teammates at Munich who were not on the traveling team for the Champions League and has picked out a house in Merseyside.
There are various and numerous sources across Europe making the same claims across the continent, including Matt Addison of the Liverpool Echo and Magnus Ericksen from CaughtOffside.

This current whopper, from the kitchen-aid roto blender of wild goose chase speculative fiction, seems to have started with French journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi.
He tweeted that an agreement had been reached between Liverpool and Thiago, with a four-year contract in place.
Now this all sounds really cool if you’re a star-crossed Liverpool fan. Especially with Thiago’s form of late. It’s been wonderful seeing him carve up Chelsea and Barca on consecutive knockout ties in the Champions League.
And if you swallow this hype, wild exaggeration; and fanciful reporting coming out of France, you’ll never have want of moonshine.
Before too many folks begin ordering jerseys with Thiago on the back, from Nike and the Liverpool fan shop, you just might wanna take a pause, breathe, relax and consider why this story is being told. Who is behind it’s telling. And who stands to benefit if the rumor is true.
Clearly Bayern are pushing this story – they’ve drastically reduced their initial asking price. They’ve admitted openly that Alcantara would like to seek new challenges instead of signing another deal with the Bavarians. They are responsible for the links with Liverpool in the media reports. Not Liverpool. This is telling.
They do not, absolutely do not, want to see Thiago leave on a free transfer next summer. This would be an absolute disaster from a FC Bayern standpoint. So they are trying in every way possible to signal to Klopp and co. that the player can be had ‘if the price is met’.
Unfortunately, the continued official word from Liverpool say’s there has been no interest in signing Alcantara this summer. This has been the official club line, from the very start from Act. 1: scene 1, back end of May.
For those who are interested in seeing the rumor mill unpacked, unvarnished, and exposed – I will leave you with the ‘real news of the day’ regarding this ongoing saga that at this point just – never was.
Peter Harris of the Echo puts all the puzzle pieces together, and he did it magnificently.
So we are where we started, Thiago is or isn’t coming to Anfield this summer? This is a perfect example of why I’ve always cautioned during a transfer window; ‘nothing is certain til the ink is dry’.
