Liverpool fans are desperate for Thiago.

iNews journalist Oliver Young-Myles described the Spanish midfielder as being in ‘the form of his life’ as he helped Bayern Munich cruise past Ligue 1 side Lyon.

He was the fulcrum, and even an early mistake that allowed Manchester United flop Memphis Depay to race through didn’t rattle Thiago. If anything, it seemed to spur him on.

The Munich star completed more passes than anyone on the field but it was a different ability that caught the eye. Thiago’s ability to skip passed the press, or to beat it doing something simple yet exquisitely elegant, remains his most coveted trait.

That’s what makes him such a special footballer, and it’s an innate skill that very few possess. Gini Wijnaldum is excellent at it, but he relies on his physical positioning and strength more than a God-given technical ability, which is what makes Thiago such a great watch.

He’s a brilliantly elegant footballer who moves the ball up the field like nobody else in the squad, and those abilities have been highlighted by Bayern’s flawless ride to the Champions League final.

Liverpool fans are starting to take notice, and they’re telling Twitter about it.

A £30m fee is looking like better value the more this European run continues, but doubtless we’ll have to wait until after the final to see whether sporting director Michael Edwards is going to move for the midfielder.

We’ve seen the great and the good across football lining up to tell us how good Thiago is, and that avalanche of information is starting to change minds and opinion.

If Wijnaldum fails to sign a contract extension, it would come as no surprise if the Spaniard came in and the Dutchman was shipped out. That would give manager Jurgen Klopp a different dimension in midfield for nearly the same money.

Things are getting exciting on this front, but just be prepared to have our hearts broken in the same way Timo Werner did when he flirted with Liverpool all summer and then joined Chelsea.
