Liverpool star Gini Wijnaldum wants to move to Barcelona.

Reports from Spain have indicated that the midfielder has ‘paralysed’ talks over his new contract in order to force through a move. He’s just waiting for the side to make an offer for him, and wants to keep his cards close to his chest.

According to Sport Witness and Sport, the ex-Newcastle United star is just waiting for his former Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman to sanction the deal.

Koeman was appointed as Barcelona manager earlier in the week and is well aware of what Gini Wijnaldum can bring to any side. In fact, signing in Gin is an ‘express wish’ of the new manager.

With a contract that expires next summer, Wijnaldum is keen to make the most of his position of power and force through a move to Barcelona.

He would cost around €20 or 25 million, said Sport, which is affordable if Barcelona manage to shift some of their aging, high-earning midfielders.

This may not turn out too bad for Liverpool. If they can sell a player who seems likely to leave for free, bring in enough money to help complete the Thiago deal and essentially swap one midfielder for another, they can emerge out of this as winners.

Melissa Reddy from the Independent has suggested that this could be the most likely course of action, while the employment of Koeman at Barcelona puts an instant connection between the Spanish club and Wijnaldum in place.

COVID-19 has already had an impact on the world of transfers and this could be the type of deal we see going forward. It looks like Liverpool are content to sell before they buy – as we saw with Kostas Tsimikas.

Sporting director Michael Edwards sanctioned a deal for Dejan Lovren to move to Zenit St. Petersberg, which brought in the majority of the funds needed to sign Tsimikas.

Next. Edwards again! Liverpool to net sell-on windfall thanks to Leeds interest. dark
