Liverpool fans want Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain gone.
The midfielder will miss up to eight weeks of action, reported Paul Joyce in the Times, after suffering a knee injury during the club’s preseason training camp in Austria.
As well as being unavailable for the start of Liverpool’s title defence campaign, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will also sacrifice two England caps as he won’t recover in time to feature against Iceland and Denmark.
Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp said it was a similar injury to the one that Jordan Henderson picked up and it comes at a terrible time for the Ox.
After missing nearly a whole season because of the ACL rupture he sustained against Roma in the Champions League, we’d started to see flashes of the former Arsenal man’s skill and ability.
Four goals in the Premier League morphed into eight in all competitions as Oxlade-Chamberlain played over 2,000 minutes during 2019/2020. He missed just five games all season because of injury – said Transfermarkt.
But that sick-note perception will continue to haunt the midfielder and anytime he’s ruled out there will be fans coming out of the woodwork to criticise and call for Klopp to get rid of the former Gunner.
The reality is a little different. Yes, Oxlade-Chamberlain missed the majority of 2018/2019 but that was because of a freak injury that can happen to anyone. It’s also one of the hardest to get over in football and, naturally, he took a little time to get that fluency and trust in his body back.
If that doesn’t happen he would have only had four injury problems in three years, resulting in 10 games missed. That’s not bad going.
Some Twitter fans haven’t realised that, or have an idea of Oxlade-Chamberlain that won’t be dislodged, so they call for him to be sold as soon as possible.
Oxlade-Chamberlain is a good player who can change games for Liverpool, he just needs a little faith and some patients from the rest of us.
