Liverpool appear to have signed Melkamu Frauendorf.

German outlet Kicker reported that the Reds were interested in Hoffenheim’s ‘highly talented offensive player’, and now is appears as if the deal has been done.

Melkamu Frauendorf has changed his Instagram bio to include a reference to Liverpool, and although there’s been no official confirmation from the club, something like this should be taken seriously.

According to Transfermarkt, the Ethiopian born forward is still with Hoffenheim so the transfer hasn’t been completed just yet, but we’re seeing promising signs.

Frauendorf played a key role for the U17 side last season, where he scored seven goals and registered five assists in the U17-Bundesliga Süd/Südwest competition.

He’s also featured four times for Germany U16s and clearly has some pedigree about him, which runs through the family as his older brother Melesse is also at the same club.

Melesse plays as a right-back or right midfielder and made the step up from the U17 side to the U19, featuring in 12 games. That brought his end-of-season tally to 36 appearances in all competitions, across all age groups, with five goals and no assists.

The German isn’t the only promising youngster Liverpool have been watching. They have already secured the signature of a highly rated Polish forward who was called ‘the next Lewandowski’ by excitable fans.

In truth, Mateusz Musiałowski may end up being nothing like the Bayern Munich legend, but his 130 youth goals in just 80 games are enough to raise eyebrows.

Academy chiefs have also managed to secure the signing of goalkeeper Fabian Mrozek from Wroclaw as they have added to the Polish contingent in Liverpool.

There have also been links with Brazil and especially Talles Magno, the starlet who might be available for a bargain. Magno’s club Vasco da Gama are in financial difficulty and that could convince them to sell their brightest prospect for far below his asking price.

If Melkamu Frauendorf arrives it’ll mark a busy period of trading for Liverpool, who are clearing trying to supplement homegrown ranks with the best talent from around the world.
