Liverpool should look to sign 17 year-old Chris Mochrie from Dundee United.
Born in 2003, the diminutive midfielder became the Terrors’ youngest ever player in May 2019 in the Scottish Championship.
He made a further four appearances this campaign, and is backed to have a regular place in the squad as Dundee United were promoted back to the big time in Scotland.
Chris Mochrie made his debut whilst still doing his GCSEs at St John’s High School, and credit for his rise has been dealt at the hands of the SFA Performance School in Dundee.
Former Terrors full-back Iain Jenkins was the SFA’s dedicated coach at the school. The Evening Telegraph reported that this had a positive impact on his development.
"“It is good to hear from a former player because the things they say are more relatable because he has done it.“Iain has a really good knowledge of the game so it has helped me and all the boys, especially on the tactical side of things.“I don’t think I would be as good a player as I am now if I hadn’t been there.More from Rush The KopDarwin continues to find footing match by matchLFC can build major momentum with a West Ham winImportant takeaways from Liverpool’s LASK winThe Europa League is not a punishment for LiverpoolWhich players can take advantage of Europa League chance?“I think I would have lost on a lot of development.”"
He has been recognised on the international stage alongside his achievements with Dundee United, featuring regularly for Scotland’s Under-16 and Under-17 outfits.
Chris Mochrie predominantly features as an attacking midfielder, but is also thought to be able to play in the number eight position, going from box-to-box. However, he is primarily a creator.
Liverpool of course have a great history with Scottish players – from ‘the team of Mac’s, to the great sides of the seventies and eighties featuring Alan Hansen, Kenny Dalglish and the like, to the modern day with Andy Robertson.
Mochrie would be the latest addition from the lower leagues in the highlands – another in the modern day would be George Johnston, who we
nt on to captain our Under-23’s before departing to further his successes at Feyenoord. We spoke exclusively to Johnston about his career path and playing under Jurgen Klopp – read it here.
This would be an excellent path for the creative midfielder to follow. Who knows, maybe in four or five years time he will be on the radar of clubs’ all around Europe.
The Reds should get there first. Get Chris Mochrie.
