Liverpool Academy star Isaac Christie-Davies has left the club.

The former Chelsea trainee spent two years with Liverpool but has left on a free transfer after his contract expired.

Stuart Reynar, writing in the Yorkshire Post, reported that Isaac Christie-Davies has been snapped up by Barnsley on a three-year deal and will fight for a place in Gerhard Sturber’s team.

The midfielder made just one appearance for Liverpool, in the infamous cup game against Aston Villa, and spent the second half of last season on loan to Belgian side Cercle Brugge but picked up an injury and never made a competitive appearance for them.

Despite the minimum impact Christie-Davies had on Jurgen Klopp’s first team, the club has managed to leave an imprint on the Welsh youth international.

He wrote a heartfelt leaving message on Instagram and it sounds like Anfield is a place he really values.

"He said: “After two great years at Liverpool it’s time for me to move on to the next step in my career. I would like to say thank you to all at the club including team mates, all the staff on and off the pitch and supporters.“It was a childhood dream to play for Liverpool so I’m honoured to have been able to do that. An extra thank you to the fans for the support, you are what makes the club what it is.”"

After coming through the system at Chelsea and spending two years with Liverpool, now is the time for the 22-year-old to kick on with his professional career. He’s been good enough to survive in the system of two top clubs, but we’ve seen many fade away after encouraging starts.

Christie-Davies will join Dominic Solanke in the Championship. Solanke also took the route from the Blues to the Reds and then onward to find more regular first team football, and will be trying to fire Bournemouth to promotion out of the second tier.

Solanke always looked promising for Liverpool, but has struggled to score goals at Bournemouth. He’s got the makings of a fine striker, though, and could really kick on this campaign. He’s got the ability to bring others into the game and has good movement, so maybe a season of first team football in the Championship is exactly what he needs.

Rush The Kop landed exclusive interviews with former Liverpool U23 stars Corey Whelan and George Johnston, and their take on leaving the club is always interesting. The former ended up in America with Phoenix Rising, while the latter is in the Netherlands with Feyenoord. Read the interview with Johnston here, and Whelan here.

Next. Thiago Alcantara is good but he’s not the creative messiah. dark

We wish the best of luck to Christie-Davies and hopefully Barnsley can get the best out of him!
