There’s a big twist in Thiago to Liverpool.
We’ve been waiting for some news about the Spaniard and it feels like there’s finally some movement rumbling on.
The whole summer, word has been that Liverpool are yet to make an offer for Thiago. When they do, it’s going to be game over.
The journalist who reported our initial interest in the move has spoken again. On July 4, we ran the story that Varsky Sports had reported that Thiag to Liverpool would happen.
This is the outlet that called Sadio Mane’s arrival and that gave them some credibility. They’ve now reported that Liverpool have made an offer for Thiago, but that the offer’s not good enough.
According to the South American publication, Liverpool have made a €30 million bid for the midfielder. Munich have said they want €35 million.
However, the contract has been agreed between the two so when the fee is right, things should start to move pretty quickly – and Barcelona aren’t interested in bringing back their former star.
In one way this is promising. It shows that Liverpool are willing to pull their finger out of their pocket and move for someone who is clearly elite, but the offer still isn’t right and sporting director Michael Edwards is someone who loves a haggle.
Jurgen Klopp spoke quite passionately about his desire to avoid throwing money at players in an attempt to win the league again. He’s worried about spending above the club’s means and disrupting squad harmony.
Klopp got pelters for this and was accused of being an FSG puppet, something he clearly isn’t, but it does show that Liverpool are going to be incredibly careful with their money.
This is one of the transfer sagas for the ages and it’s not going away any time soon – could we be nearing the end, though?
