Liverpool fans want Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain out.

There’s been an explosive rumour going around that Newcastle United and Wolves want to sign the midfielder, and there are plenty of fans who would be happy to see him go.

90min.com and LFCdaytrippers writer Grizz Khan reported the news on Twitter, and it’s sparked an explosive reaction.

We’re not saying this rumour is true, rather just reporting on the flurry of opinion that has come forward following Khan’s tweet.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has struggled to make a name for himself at Liverpool. He didn’t get going for ages, and was cut down just as he did. The Ox burst onto the Anfield scene with some tremendous Champions League performances, but did his ACL against Roma and hasn’t been the same since then.

He made 30 appearances in the Premier League last season, but started just 17 games as he hit four goals and set up one other. However, he was inconsistent and struggled to hold down a place in the starting XI.

An injury picked up in preseason means the Ox will miss several weeks at the start of the season, which has caused great frustration.

Despite his issues, the 27-year-old is still worth £25 million (according to Transfermarkt), and you’d assume a bid of around there or above would be enough for Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards.

Anything around this fee would raise the money required to buy Thiago, and that could be considered a major upgrade.

Would the squad miss him? Arguably not. Naby Keita looks set for an increased role this season and that takes away some minutes from the Ox, while Curtis Jones is also set for more first team involvement.

Newcastle United probably don’t have the funds to bring Oxlade-Chamberlain in, and they’re not challenging in the right areas of the league. Wolves are, but they’ve also spent big this summer and might not be in the position to go again.
